Thydo on a phone: a numbered task list with productivity and procrastination tracked for the top task, “Fix the checkout bug”. The bottom toolbar shows an add-task button on the left, today’s green productivity and red procrastination bar, total tracked time, and settings.

53% of office workers surveyed admitted using technology to procrastinate at work.

And that was seven years ago! Doomscrolling wasn’t even a thing back then.

You know what needs doing. Yet here you are, watching another video.

Thydo helps close the gap between writing it down and getting it done.

Make a good plan.
Then stay on it.

Three steps. No productivity PhD required.

  1. Step 1

    Pick your next task

Use the web app to add, edit, and prioritize tasks faster with your keyboard and mouse. Your list syncs with your phone. The task at the top is the one that matters now.

  2. Step 2

    Let Thydo track your time

Install the lightweight desktop app for macOS or Windows. Thydo automatically tracks which apps and websites you’re using. On Windows, add the to track individual websites.

  3. Thydo’s productivity bar for the current task: 75% productive in green, 25% procrastination in red, and 1 hour 21 minutes on the task.

    Step 3

    See where your day goes

Set your phone in a stand beside the monitor, plugged in, screen facing you. Watch your productivity in real time. When procrastination goes too far, get a reminder to return to work.

Windows installation instructions.

For tracking website urls you also need to install the Thydo browser extension in Chrome, Edge, or Brave. Without it, the Windows app tracks the browser as an application, without identifying individual websites.

Download Windows app
  1. Download Windows app. Extract Windows app, run Install.cmd, then sign in and approve the computer in the page that opens. Keep Thydo running in the notification area.
  2. Open your browser’s extensions page. Type chrome://extensions (Chrome), edge://extensions (Edge), or brave://extensions (Brave) into the address bar.
  3. Turn on Developer mode. Click Load unpacked and select the browser-extension folder containing manifest.json, not the ZIP file. Check that Thydo browser activity appears and is enabled. Repeat in each browser you use. Keep the selected folder in place; the browser loads the extension from it.
  4. Enable website tracking. Open the Thydo extension from your browser’s extensions menu, read the data disclosure, and click Enable website tracking. You can pause it again from the same window. The extension starts with tracking off.
  5. Enable private-window detection. Open the extension’s Details and enable Allow in Incognito (Chrome/Brave) or Allow in InPrivate (Edge). This lets Thydo track the active private tab’s URL and title and classify its website. Private-window detection is unsupported without this setting.
  6. Check that it works. Start a task in Thydo, then keep a normal website in the foreground for at least six seconds. Check the task’s activity list for that website.
Still seeing only the browser name?

Make sure Thydo is connected and tracking is not paused. Choose Set up browser tracking again, then reload the extension on your browser’s extensions page or restart the browser. Multiple profiles of the same browser can interfere with website tracking; try one profile at a time.

When upgrading the Windows app, quit Thydo and temporarily disable its extension in every browser before running the installer. Enable it again afterwards and click Reload on the extensions page.

The extension reports the focused tab’s URL and title to the Windows app. It does not read page contents, browsing history, or keystrokes. With private-window access enabled, active private tab URLs and titles are tracked too. Extension privacy policy.

You can’t argue with the numbers.

Your rules. Your productivity.

Decide which apps and websites count as productive.

Working on a website? Mark it as productive. Watching movies in VLC? Mark that as procrastination. Thydo follows your rules.

  • Desktop apps start as productive.
  • Websites start as procrastination.
  • One switch flips either. No guessing, no judging.
Thydo’s Apps and websites settings with search, productivity switches and tracked durations. Cursor, Mail, localhost, Slack, Terminal and Notes are productive; VLC, reddit.com, news.ycombinator.com and x.com are marked as procrastination.

Caught procrastinating? Thydo noticed.

Set your alert delay in seconds. When you’ve been distracted for too long, Thydo shows an alert on your phone and plays a sound.

Pause your task, close the alert, or mark the activity as productive. The sound repeats until you choose.

Thydo’s distraction alert asks “Is this helping your task?” after a visit to reddit.com, with options to pause the current task, close the alert, or mark the website as productive.

Built by someone who knows the problem.

I’m a developer. I know what it’s like to sit down at a computer with every intention of getting something done — and somehow end up doing everything except the task I was supposed to be working on.

I’ve tried the lists. I’ve tried organizing the lists. I’ve probably spent too much time thinking about how to organize the lists.

But the problem was never really knowing what to do.

It was actually doing it.

That’s why I built Thydo.

One task at a time. A clear view of where my time goes. And a little reminder when my attention wanders.
